The video is based on a 50×80 mm analog photo from an unknown heritage collection, taken in 1954. After digitalisation, the human figures visible in the photo were (re)animated using various techniques based on the principles of collage and montage – cutting, cropping, redrawing, and overdrawing – and then combined using various video synthesizers and „image to video” algorithms. In his book Camera Lucida, Roland Barthes called the photograph a living image of a dead thing. In connection with this, the creation of the video was also a special ritual for us: As a result of synchronizing and repeating the sequences of movements imagined and generated on the basis of the captured shot, the documented moment of the past became a grotesque memento dancing on the borderline between existence and non-existence, between reality and imagination.
